Horsethief Canyon
Not my poetry today. The Canyon is the poem. Photos were taken during a three mile trek through Horsethief Canyon’s Buffalo Tracks Trail. Kanopolis State Park nestles in the Kansas Smokey Hills.
Our arduous winter, that only feigned relief three weeks ago, is finally ending. With each step I felt stressful, soul-gnawing winter-blues thawing. Thawing like Alum Creek’s ice, now gentle enchanting waters churning detritus, providing for tiny creatures, while slowly wending its way through canyons to the Smokey River.
This place has healing power and, I'm sure, eons of interesting history. I'm drawn to those rock formations!
Wow, beautiful photos and video! I admit, I never thought much about Kansas being a place of natural beauty ... so thank you for educating me, Mark. Such serenity!
